Martie van Deventer has been responsible for developing a change strategy for the South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research's information services.  The change required a move away from traditional library services (the CSIR library and information service is one of the largest special libraries in the country) to a service that actively supports the enablement of a virtual research environment.  the strategy is based upon three key areas, access to electronic information, the development of knowledge dissemination products and the curation of digital material.  There is also a focus on collaboration across boundaries and the project that will be reported on reflects on the outcome of one such collaboration project.
