The role of Knowledge Manager was created in October 2011 to oversee the development of a library network for the Department of Health, which involves coordinating the purchasing, services and library staffing of the existing hospital and health agency libraries. Prior to this appointment, Mary was the joint manager and online services librarian of the library serving the Royal Adelaide Hospital, South Australia Pathology and the South Australia Department of Health workforce.

Mary’s main areas of expertise are online service provision, website content management and user training/education. She has a particular interest in emerging technologies such as Web 2.0, mobile computing and wireless, and their application to the provision of library services. Mary is the international coordinator of the Chasing the Sun after-hours virtual reference service for health professionals, and is on the international advisory committees of the Internet Librarian International conference.
